Hazardous And Excessive Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Motivation For Productive Change

It took several years but Sarah at long last made up her mind that she had it with her husband's abusive drinking. She was sick and tired of seeing Keith come home after 1:00 AM from drinking rather than spending time with her and their three daughters. She was also sick and tired of the DWI Keith recently got. Additionally she was tired of making explanations for Keith when he couldn't make it to work due to his careless and hazardous drinking.

In a similar manner, she was nervous about the fact that their relationship was going downhill due to Keith's careless and excessive drinking. And finally she was sick and tired of the hazardous financial jam into which he had put his family because of his excessive and abusive drinking behavior.

One Sunday morning when Sarah was reflecting on what she could do about her husband's careless and excessive drinking, she got to the point that she simply had to do something to cut into the damaging cycle of Keith's careless and excessive drinking behavior. So Sarah looked online under "alcohol rehabilitation" and discovered quite a few rehab centers that were all located less than 50 miles away from where she and Keith resided.

When Sarah called each rehabilitation clinic she identified who she was and stated that her husband was exhibiting careless and excessive drinking behavior. She also mentioned that her husband had a comprehensive health insurance program at his job and that residential or outpatient alcohol addiction treatment would be covered if a physician in the company health program recommended the treatment.

After listening to Sarah discuss her husband's careless and abusive drinking, the healthcare professional in a helpful but resolute way explained to Sarah how she probably played a major part in her husband's excessive and abusive drinking through the months and the years. How? Primarily by making excuses for him instead of letting him suffer the outcomes of his careless and excessive drinking behavior.

In a word, the counselor stated to Sarah that she may have been inadvertently enabling Keith's excessive and abusive drinking behavior. The healthcare practitioner also underlined the fact that Sarah would not be able to control her spouse's actions. With the support and guidance of the rehabilitation team at the rehabilitation facility, nevertheless, she would not only be able to learn how to avoid contributing to Keith's excessive and abusive drinking but she would also be able to learn how to motivate him to make an appointment at the treatment facility so that he could go over his excessive and abusive drinking healthcare practitioner.

The good news was that after Sarah explained this to Keith and he saw that she was not joking, he told her that he had been very anxious about his careless and abusive drinking behavior and that he was very relieved to discover that Sarah wanted to do something constructive about his excessive and abusive drinking behavior. As a consequence, he scheduled an appointment to see a therapist at the local alcohol treatment center.

While simply calling a rehabilitation center does not mean that a person's excessive and abusive drinking behavior will become less problematic or that an individual will automatically be more open to learning about alcohol abuse facts, making an appointment is plainly a crucial factor in the rehabilitation process. And since Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting professional help for his abusive and unhealthy drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the probability for a successful recovery was significantly increased.
