An Impetuous High School Student Exhibits Several Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Kicked Out Of School, And Has To See The School Therapist

Stephen was a sixteen year old high school junior who was manifesting more than a few alcohol-related issues at school. For that reason, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school therapist, before he would be permitted to come back to school.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to clarify his school expulsion to his parents. His Mom and Dad were "relatively old-style" and explained to Stephen that getting discharged from school was not a viable educational game plan. They told Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his legs that might hinder his educational achievement for the remainder of his life. Moreover, Stephen's Mother and Father were quite displeased that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his buddies in the second.

It was clear that his Mother and Father were out-and-out in full agreement with Stephen's principal and explained to Stephen that he had better make up his mind to see Miss Pender, the school therapist. After his dialogue with his parents, Stephen in the end agreed to see Miss Pender the next school day. So Stephen phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during lunch.

When Stephen arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she instantly analyzed all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had experienced and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related activities signaled such alarm.

Quite truthfully, Stephen was not sure why the principal told him he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking circumstances? Due to the fact that nearly all of his buddies drink about as much as he does, primarily, drinking shouldn't be such a big deal. Stated more explicitly, if nearly everyone is drinking, why is this such a big thing?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to foil his ability to function as an accountable young man. As put into words by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your pals drink wine, wine coolers, hard liquor, or beer does not mean that it's the best thing to do for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was well prepared for her appointment with Stephen. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that summarized different drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a bit of figures and reports that applied especially to adolescents.

After Miss Pender stated the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was plain to see that what Miss Pender revealed to Stephen was a realization for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to put in plain words the long term and the short term consequences of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, but she also took the time to support what she was saying with alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that related to everybody in general, and mainly to teens.

As a matter of fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately grasped why he should not be engaging in excessive and abusive drinking with or without his buddies any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the material she went over and then accepted her reinstatement into school.
