Linda and Frank have been dating for eight years. They met while enrolled in the same financial accounting class at a relatively large, countryside, private liberal arts college located in the far Western part of the United States. While they were simply good friends at first, they at long last started dating when they were in their third year of college.
Because both of them came from very conventional backgrounds, neither one of them drank much beyond the testing stage when they first started to date. As the time progressed, however, they started to go to more football bashes, sorority and fraternity parties, happy hours, and keg parties. Consequently, they progressively began to drink increasingly more as time went by.
After they graduated, they both found employment in a large city located just about fifty-five miles from their undergraduate college. Then they eventually made up their mind to move into the same apartment together.

All of these questions without a doubt indicated the same conclusion, namely that Linda and Frank needed to realize that they couldn't maintain their heavy and irresponsible drinking if their dreams, hopes, and plans were to be completed.
Once they settled upon this conclusion, they informed their drinking pals about their their plans to start a family, about their goal of buying or building a new house, and about their marital plans. They also told their drinking friends that they still wanted to associate with them but that they would be drinking responsibly from this moment forward so that they could begin realizing their future hopes, dreams, and plans.
Much to their amazement, all of their friends expressed relief because they too had been recalculating their lives and concluded that their life-styles were too centered around drinking. They also felt that they would have to change fundamentally if they were to become more accountable and display more respect for their plans, their health, and for their careers in the next five or ten years.
After their conversation with their pals about their goals, dreams, and aspirations, Linda and Frank in effect started to have more significant relationships with all of their buddies. The fundamental reason for this was the fact that all of them had the same frame of mind regarding their heavy drinking and their short and long-term aspirations, goals, and plans.
