A Friday Evening Out With College Pals At A Local College Tavern Leads To Excessive Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had secured a reputation as an individual who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, "painted the town red" by drinking with her pals. She seemed passionate about excelling academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial position.

After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into an illustrious program in religion. Her rationale underlying this decision was that this subject would be a good springboard for law school and would not be identical to the majority of law school applicants who elect to choose political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the type of individual who worked meticulously to reach her objective and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As it turns out, however, virtually all of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not have much to do with drinking. Evidently, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were completed and elated with the fact that she had done a super job on her exams, because of this, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.

So Lois and a few of her friends from college went to a local club where they had a few wine coolers. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a wonderful time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking around fifty-five minutes when Lois started to speak in a confused manner, slur her words, and then become unconscious, nonetheless, her classmates instantaneously realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they thought that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was attentive to the fact that she came an inch from losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was happy to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the night before. Her parents were aware how intensely she worked in graduate school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her classmates. Nevertheless, they also realized that Lois needed to keep away from abusive and excessive drinking.

Consequently, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking occasion unfolds, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois agreed and promised her Mother and Father and her friends that she would never ever drink in a hazardous manner. In Lois's own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now grasp the fact that careless and irresponsible drinking is not for me. I give my word of honor that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. Stated more precisely, she rapidly grasped the fact that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would not make the same error again. Indeed, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of irresponsible and hazardous drinking can result in a loss of life.
